Never-say-die Kings Force Game 7

Barangay Ginebra turned the game around on a decisive run in the third quarter and the Kings pressed on in the final period to stop the Air21 Express, 80-75, and force a deciding Game Seven in their Smart PBA Fiesta Conference title playoff at the Araneta Coliseum last night.
Chris Alexander churned out a PBA career-best performance with 37 points and 24 rebounds, and the Kings lived to fight a do-or-die game to the delight of the predominantly Ginebra crowd of over 18,000 at the Big Dome.
The two teams dispute the title Wednesday starting at 7 p.m., also at the Big Dome.
“It has nothing to do with the Xs and Os. It’s sheer heart,” said coach Jong Uichico of the Ginebra Kings great effort that saw them overcome an early 16-point deficit.
“(The boys) just lived up to the spirit of Barangay Ginebra — never say die, keep the energy, keep the spirit. We had no other recourse since it’s a knockout game for us. Something good came out of it,” Uichico also said.CON
“That’s the beauty of taking the 3-2 lead in a best-of-seven series. You lose Game Six and you still have a chance to win it in Game Seven. The boys are sad with the loss but we still believe that we can win it,” said Air21 coach Bo Perasol.
“Imagine, we lost Steven Thomas (on fouls) with over five minutes left to play and we’re beaten by only five. That says a lot that we really can compete,” Perasol added.
